A unique experience riding from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai.
Day 1 : Bua Thong waterfalls to Mae Ngat Dam (L/D)
After the pickup from hotel in the morning, we transfer to start off at Buathong waterfall, called the sticky falls since you can walk up to the top. After that we start cycling through villages where time seems to be standing still. We stop at a local school and see the farmers working in rice paddies. Through a rolling landscape we reach the Mae Ngat Dam at the end of the afternoon where we take a long tail boat which takes us in half an hour to the center of the giant lake. We will overnight on floating bungalows. You can spend the evening relaxing, swimming, canoeing or fishing. Ride: 29 km.
Day 2: Around Chiang Dao (B/L/D)
We take a transfer from our resort to the Chiang Dao Caves and the start of our ride. After a visit to the cave we'll ride through rice fields set among soaring limestone cliffs. Our ride will be a mixture of dirt paths cut by local hill tribes and we may meet some local tribe peoples - Akha, Lisu and Palaung – from the area. The colorful Palaungs are recent migrants and you will see their women adorned with heavy brass waist-bands working the fields. Ride: 35 km
Day 3: Chiang Dao to Tha Ton (B/L/D)
After breakfast we transfer to Fang and the start of our ride. From here we ride the back roads through many small villages. The ride to Mae Salak follows the Mae Kok River and is one of the most scenic on the trip. We end the day's pleasurable ride at the small town of Mae Salak and give you time to enjoy the well-situated resort. After enjoying the view over the river from your room, or having a dip in the pool, you'll be entertained by local Lahu children who will come to the resort and perform traditional music and dance. Ride: 40 km
Day 4: Tha Ton to Chiang Rai (B/L/-)
We ride to a hilltribe village where we take a a longtail boat towards Chiang Rai. Just before Chiang Rai we start to cycle and we will pass the Ruammit elephant camp and visit some hot springs. Then to the famous Wat Rong Khun where our tour ends. You can stay in Chiang Rai or we can transfer you back to Chiang Mai. Ride: 38 km
We ride on small back roads with little traffic and some short off-road sections. The terrain is undulating with no major climbs, but just in case, our support vehicle is always close by. This tour is suitable for anyone with some off-road biking experience. The trip is fully supported and your guide’s expert knowledge of the area and terrain means that you always know what is coming up in terms of distance and difficulty. This makes a tremendous difference, as does the constant supply of cold drinks and fresh fruit. Suitability: This tour is suitable for riders with some off-road biking experience. You can expect a fairly gentle ride each day with none of the distances being overly long. There are a few small hills, but these can be tackled by anyone with even a moderate amount of fitness. The emphasis on this tour is Thailand’s scenery off the beaten track. Biking Conditions: This trip is a mixture of wide, hard-packed dirt trails, single tracks and smooth tarmac. An air-conditioned bus travels behind the group to support us, and participants can cycle as much or as little as they like and still enjoy the same views as the rest of the group.
