The tour starts with a pick up from your hotel or the airport/train station and a drive to Nam Phrae district where you can check into our small paradise, a nature resort. After check-in the cycling commences and you will visit traditional villages with wooden houses on stilts, stop at a village school, ride through the rice fields along lazy back roads and the forest areas connecting the small villages. The tour explores the lifestyle of local farmers and explains the process of seasonal rice farming. Encounters such as water buffaloes crossing the street or children being surprised by the unusual sight of foreigners cycling through their village can be expected. There is sufficient time to stop, have a rest or refreshment and chat with the villagers to get a feeling of the local life. You will return to the resort with its teak wood buildings and saltwater swimming pool for some rest and dinner later that night.
A pickup truck will take you to the town of Mae Wang, famous for its many elephant sanctuaries along the river. You will visit one of them and assist in feeding and bathing the elephants, take a cooling dip in the river while cleaning and playing with the elephants in the water. After that the first hike of about 45 minutes to a Meo (Hmong) Hill tribe village. We take time to stroll around and learn a thing or two about their lifestyle and culture.
Lunch will be served in Mae Win. And then onward to rafting. The rafts are made from bamboo, by connecting long bamboo sticks to each other. You will descend the river at a relaxing pace, enjoying the natural surroundings of lush greenery and beautiful mountain views. After this another hike, this time to a Karen village. Near here there is a waterfall for a cooling swim. And that is it for this day, back to Chiang Mai.
