The tour starts with a pick up from your hotel or the airport/train station and drive to a small traditional village about 20 minutes outside Chiang Mai. Here the cycling commences and you will visit traditional villages with wooden houses on stilts, stop at a village school, ride through the rice fields along lazy back roads and the forest areas connecting the small villages. The tour explores the lifestyle of local farmers and explains the process of seasonal rice farming. Encounters such as water buffaloes crossing the street or children surprised by the unusual sight of foreigners cycling through their village can be expected. There is sufficient time to stop, have a rest or refreshment and chat with the villagers to get a feeling of the local life. You will stay at a resort with teak wood buildings and saltwater swimming pool.
In the morning we drive north and make a stop at a local market where the guide will buy food for the trek and you can buy some water. Then we drive on, into the mountains to the starting point of the trek. The hike itself is about 3 hours through the beautiful jungle with stunning views and lush greens, to end at an authentic hill tribe village. We take it easy on the way and can stop if and when we want, picture taking or a swim at a waterfall as often as you like. We spent the night in the village.
After breakfast we will walk for about 2 hours to reach the elephant camp in the town of Mae Wang, you will assist in feeding and bathing the elephants, take a cooling dip in the river while cleaning and playing with the elephants in the water.
From here another 1.5-hour walk to the river where your guide will prepare lunch. And then onward to rafting. The rafts are made from bamboo, by connecting long bamboo sticks to each other. You will descend the river at a relaxing pace, enjoying the natural surroundings and beautiful mountain views to Sop Kai, the point where our truck is waiting to transport us back to Chiang Mai.
